General radiography or X-ray imaging uses radiation to visualize the internal structures of the body.
X-ray beams pass through the human body, striking a detector to produce an image. The internal structures of the body attenuates the X-ray beam, casting “shadows”on the detector which creates the image.
X-rays are the most commonly performed radiology examination, used to assess a wide variety of conditions including, but not limited to, skeletal diseases, lung infections, arthritis and cancer.
Women who are pregnant must alert their doctor and the radiographer if they are being scheduled for an X-ray examination.
